Three-Part Series Installed at Castival Hotel — Artist Residency Collection (English Version)

This triptych was created during the Artist Residency Program at Castival Hotel and is now installed permanently on the wall of the Asia Restaurant. Each piece is shaped through my signature process of wood carving, layered coloration, and a final protective coat of epoxy, allowing the works to embody both tactile depth and luminous clarity. The series reinterprets iconic Anatolian and Islamic miniature traditions through a contemporary lens.

1. “The Tiger in Pursuit” — Inspired by Classical Miniature Imagery

The first piece draws inspiration from traditional miniature depictions of a tiger in pursuit of its prey—an allegorical scene symbolizing instinct, fate, and the cyclical tension between hunter and hunted. By translating this motif onto carved wood and enveloping it in a radiant golden palette, I emphasize the timelessness of the struggle and its presence within the human psyche.

2. “The Lunar Guardian” — Based on the El-Buhran Manuscript

The second work is rooted in the lunar imagery found in the illustrated manuscript El-Buhran. The crescent moon, rendered in bold curvature and saturated tones, acts as a celestial emblem of intuition, rhythm, and transformation. This piece interprets the ancient astrological symbol not merely as a cosmic sign but as a spiritual compass guiding the inner journey of the viewer.

3. “The Four Directions” — Inspired by Animal-Headed Angel Miniatures

The third work revisits the miniature tradition of four guardian angels with animal heads, each representing a direction of the world and a principle of cosmic protection. In this composition, motion, color, and mythic symbolism merge to express a universal choreography—one where divine forces surround and safeguard the axis of existence. The central golden circle serves as an emblem of the world itself, glowing with continuity and balance.

Conceptual Overview

Together, these three works form a contemporary visual mythos—an encounter between ancient cosmology and modern material practice. By carving into wood and sealing each surface with epoxy, I reinterpret sacred imagery in a format that bridges the historical with the immediately tactile. Their permanent placement within Castival Hotel’s Asia Restaurant allows these narratives to live as enduring guardians of the space, honoring the residency program through a lasting artistic presence.
